I’m learning to appreciate the small things in life. Often times the small things are overlooked because of my unrealistic expectations and unrealistic time table. The desires of my heart tend to overshadow and cloud my mind sometimes. What then happens is, I lose sight of what’s before me…the little things…my blessings.
I can remember a time when all I did was complain about everything. Most of the time the complaints stemmed from being impatient about where I was compared to my peers and my own goals. I had this intricate plan for my personal and professional life all mapped out and the specific time periods for them to be met. I thought it’d be easy. I was wrong! Life happened and the the twist and turns come unexpectedly. When things weren’t happening as quickly as I had anticipated, I begin to feel miserable, anxious, and frustrated.
I begin to complain about where I wasn’t and where I wanted to be. I complained about how far behind schedule I was according to my map…and the list goes on. At some point I realized that although I may not be where I want to be, I’ve certainly come a long way. I was and still am blessed and couldn’t see it. Fast forward today…I look back at how far I’ve come, and I’m amazed! It’s incredibly encouraging to see myself walking and living out some of the very things I’ve dreamt about for so long.
I admit from time to time, I do find myself complaining about the seasons I’m in. However I’m quickly reminded to enjoy and appreciate the small and big things that are happening in my present life.
While I’m still in this season and place, I choose to enjoy and vast in it. I will embrace simplicity and find appreciation of where I am today. I will continue to set my goals and will continue to dream. The simple and small things is what’s important right now. As I continue to walk this journey, at every stop and resting place, I will take it all in and learn to appreciate it for what it is.
